Tennis Pro/Coach Al Garrett is the co-founder and Executive Director of Youth Development Association, Inc. Coach G is the former Director of Tennis for the City of Madison, AL at Dublin Park Tennis Center.  He served as Director of Tennis from 1993 until 2006.  While at Dublin Park, Coach G developed children and youth tennis programs including the USTA/NJTL Chapter; Junior Team Tennis; a tournament (travel) team; programming with Dublin Parks & Rec for Special Olympics-Tennis; adult beginner to advanced classes; USTA Adult League Teams; junior and adult sanctioned and non-sanctioned tournaments; conducted free clinics to include the USPTA Tennis Across America events and PTR sponsored free clinics.

 

Coach G was PTR certified in 1993 (active) and USPTA certified in 1995 (active).  He is also certified by the Alabama High School Athletics Association and returned to coaching high school tennis in January 2015 at St. John Paul II Catholic High School in Huntsville, AL.

 

Coach G was licensed (2004) and ordained (2005) as a minister by The Huntsville Presbytery of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America.

 

As the Executive Director of Youth Development Association, Inc. (YDA), Coach G oversees this non-profit organizational member of the USTA and Community Tennis Association.  YDA conducts S.E.T. (Soaring in Education/Etiquette through Tennis) targeting under-served populations and communities providing tutoring, mentoring through tennis, and leadership development through community service.

 

Tennis Pro/Coach Garrett is married to Ruth J. Garrett and the proud father of five (5), Diane, Marcus, Brian, Angela, and Calvin and has been richly blessed with 11 truly grand grandchildren.
